Laser Treatment

Many people experience discoloration of the skin as they age. Part of this is because of the gradual wearing away of the naturally-occurring molecules in the skin like collagen and melanin. At Via Beauty & Brow, we use The GentleMax Pro®. This dynamic FDA-approved machine provides a series of treatments on a specific locale without harming the surrounding skin. Made with patient comfortability in mind, The GentleMax Pro® treats the skin with cryogen first to rapidly cool the skin just milliseconds before two rapid lasers, the Alexandrite (for lighter skin tones) and nd-YAG (for darker skin tones), treat the skin to clear up any unwanted blemish or hair follicle.

Why get laser treatment?

Many people receive laser treatment to clear up blemishes caused by aging skin that lacks melanin, including sun spots and leg and facial veins (varicose veins). Others receive laser treatments to get rid of or minimize unwanted tattoos or scars. The majority of patients, however, use laser treatments to get rid of hair in unwanted regions of the body like the bikini area, the legs, on feet and toes, on the chest and back, above the lip, and around the jaw. After laser hair removal, patients no longer experience things like stubble or itchy regrowth and do not have to deal with the processes of shaving or waxing unwanted hair away again and again.

Who should not get laser treatments?

You should not get laser treatments if you are:

  • under the age of 18
  • pregnant or nursing

F.A.Q.

Should I worry about radiation poisoning?

No. There are two types of radiation: non-ionizing and ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation (x-rays, ultra-violet rays, and nuclear radiation) causes radiation poisoning. The type of radiation used in cosmetic laser treatments is non-ionizing radiation and is generated by FDA-approved machinery specifically for cosmetic use.

Are there any side effects?

After the treatment, the concentrated region may feel sunburnt. Moisturizers and ice packs can relieve any discomfort. Some patients experience mild blistering. Lotions with aloe or pure aloe gel can help heal any blistering and soothe any discomfort.

What should I do to prepare for my laser treatment?

You should avoid plucking, waxing, or shaving in the six weeks prior to your laser treatment. This is because laser treatments require the root of the hair to be present at the time of treatment. We recommend no lotions or makeup be put on the region the day of the procedure.

What is the laser treatment procedure like?

The practitioner and patient wear specialized eye-wear to prevent any eye damage. The practitioner will hold The GentlePro Max® wand over the pre-decided region, a small release of cryogen will rapidly cool the area and two rapid lasers (the Alexandrite for lighter skin tones and the nd-YAG for darker skin tones) will treat the area. Then, the practitioner will move to the next pre-decided region and repeat this process until the entire desired area has been treated by the wand. No anesthetic is required for the procedure as very little discomfort is experienced during most treatments.

How long is the laser treatment?

While each case is different, most hair removal sessions are done within half an hour. Other laser treatments are done within an hour.

What happens after my laser treatment?

Some patients have the experience of a sunburn-like feeling on the concentrated region. This can be treated with moisturizers or cold compresses. Makeup and lotions can be used after several hours have passed following the treatment unless the skin is blistered.

How long before I can see a difference?

Because blemishes, scars, and discoloration vary based on size, location, and the patient's own skin, some cases require multiple treatments while others will only require one. While each patient and case is different, full hair removal generally takes between 3-to-7 treatments spaced a few weeks apart.

How long does my laser treatment last?

Each case is different. Generally speaking, laser treatments are some of the longest-lasting non-invasive dermal procedures. However, some may experience relapse or new blemishes they seek to absolve, in which case they can seek further laser treatments
